Hiking with children

Rohrmooserhof family hiking tips:

Holidays on the mountains should be fun for every member of the family. That is why there are also hikes for toddlers. We have compiled some children’s hikes for you:

Riesach waterfalls

Tour time: 1 hour

The tour to the roaring waterfalls starts in Untertal, from the Riesach waterfall car park. You must not miss seeing this spectacle because your children will be completely stunned. Tip: on the way, you pass the Waldhäusl Alp with an adventure playground, animals, boat and raft trips on the Waldhäusl lake.

Mushroom learning path

Tour time: 1 hour
The mushroom path leads through the forest, from the Hochwurzen cable car lower station. Passing various nature-stations on the way, the whole family will learn a lot about the different mushrooms in the area. Tip: this hiking path is a good “wellies hike” on rainy days.

Fairytale hike

Tour time: 1 hour
(first half of the path is accessible with pram)
The adventure path starts at the Rohrmooserhof Hotel and passes various fairytale surprises. On the path there is also a Viking ship and a huge swing.

Circular path to the nickel melter

Tour time: 1 hour
(accessible for prams)
The tour starts from Hopfriesen/Obertal to the middle of the Schladminger mining centre.
Special tip: It is well worth visiting the newly opened nickel museum with smelter

Wehrhofalm

Tour time: 15 minutes
On the way to Wehrofalm you can park your car at any point along the way. Walk on the hiking path – even with prams – to the Wehrhofalm. Tip: there are a playground, a lake, animals and a model-figure path.

Planai circular path

Tour time: 1.5 hours
(also for prams)
You can either ascent with the Planai cable car or drive with your car to the Planaihof. This is where the circular path starts – as well as also being where you will get to know some interesting facts. Tip: at the end of the path there is a playground.

Waldhäuslalm

Depending on where you park your car you can have a pleasant walk on this path to the Waldhäuslalm (also for prams). Tip: at the Waldhäuslalm there is an adventure playground, animals, boat and raft trips on the Waldhäusl lake.

Moarhof Alp

(accessible for prams)
Moarhof Alp is accessible by car – but you can also have a very enjoyable walk up there. Depending on how long you plan to hike, you can park your car anywhere alongside the path.
Tip: at the Moarhof Alp, there are real rocks for climbing/bouldering, animals, playground and culinary highlights, all waiting for you.

Styrian Lake Bodensee

Tour time: 1.5 hours
(accessible for prams)
In the Seewigtal Valley there is the Styrian Lake Bodensee. The trip starts at the car park and leads to the lake and around it. There is also a playground here, as well as the opportunity for boat trips on the lake and feeding the fish.

Hochwurzen – explore the natural environment

Tour time: 1.5 hours
Take the cable car up to the Hochwurzen mountain station. From there, walk along the forest learning path with everything you need to know about the forest and the animals and then continue hiking to the Roßfeld plateau. This path is for children with good stamina – but they will be rewarded with wonderful views and their brought along snacks and packed lunch!
